Discover Gardens: A blend of Urban Convenience and Natural Beauty

Unveiling Gardens

Cape Town is a vibrant city located on the southwestern tip of South Africa, and it is known for its stunning natural beauty, diverse culture, and rich history. The Gardens neighbourhood is one of the central areas of Cape Town and is situated at the foot of Table Mountain. The rich history of gardens dates to the early European settlement at the Cape of Good Hope. In the mid-17th century, the Dutch East India Company established a refreshment station at the Cape of Good Hope to provide fresh produce for ships travelling between the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies. The area was initially developed as a garden to supply vessels with fresh vegetables and fruits. This garden eventually became the Company's Garden, a public park that still exists today.

The Gardens area evolved into a more residential and commercial district. Gardens are known for their well-preserved colonial architecture, including historic houses and buildings that reflect the architectural styles of different periods. These structures are protected as part of Cape Town's cultural heritage.

Today, Gardens is a diverse and vibrant neighbourhood characterized by its historical charm, cultural attractions, and proximity to iconic landmarks such as Table Mountain. The area's history is intertwined with the broader history of Cape Town and South Africa.

Why to invest – Market Potential, Growth and Development

The area has seen a surge in mixed-use developments, combining residential, commercial, and retail spaces. This trend aligns with modern urban living preferences and can provide diverse investment opportunities. Restaurants, bars, pubs, and entertainment venues contribute to the nightlife in Gardens, offering social spaces for locals and visitors. Naturally, the vibrant area and nearby amenities benefit from professional services such as law firms and consulting services, creative and tech communities, and attracting startups, artists, and entrepreneurs. This growth can foster innovation and entrepreneurial activities, potentially leading to higher rental yields and property values. The ongoing gentrification and expansion of Gardens, with the minor renovations of spaces into modern apartments and workspaces, could increase property values and rental income. It is important to note that the real estate market can be subject to fluctuations, and investment decisions should be made after conducting thorough market research, financial analysis, and consulting with real estate professionals. The neighbourhood hosts cultural events that draw visitors and residents alike. These activities can contribute to increased foot traffic and demand for local businesses. Relax in the Company Gardens

The Company’s Garden was a location for one of the first farms supplying fresh produce to arriving and departing seafarers. Although these days it’s better known as a place to feed squirrels, there is now a restaurant beneath the trees and a small fresh produce farm as a throwback to that distant era. Combining the lush gardens with the numerous museums makes it a must-visit.

“The National Gallery is a staple for many locals and tourists; check in every few months to see who’s on exhibition and reconnect with some of the seminal South African permanent collection pieces. The Planetarium has also been a must-visit, significantly since the revamp.

Eat out on Kloof Street

Kloof Street runs through the heart of Gardens, and it’s here that you’ll find some of the neighbourhood's best restaurants. Head to Kloof Street House for cocktails, tapas, and great views of the mountain and the surroundings from the entertainment deck. Another recommendation is its sister restaurant, Asoka, further up the road, serving delicious food in a classy but unpretentious environment.

The Italian restaurant Bacini’s doesn't disappoint if you’re heading to the top of the street.

The Taqueria, El Burro, is up and around the corner for tacos and tequila.

For a late-night slice, head to NY Slice, or for a casual sit-down meal of chili-poppers and frozen margarita jugs, the Fat Cactus rarely disappoints.
